Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time (I Peter 5:6; NIV).
I looked up the word “humble” in the dictionary – not proud or arrogant; modest. Another said lowly, on the ground.
In this day and age, it certainly doesn’t seem like this is a commonly seen character trait. In fact, it’s rather frowned upon. Quite the opposite is publicized and looked-up to “by the masses” these days.
How about you? What tends to get your attention and turn your head?
Before you zoom away to your next appointment on your To-Do List, let me toss this thought into the heart of your mind —
Imagine this: you’re standing several feet away and you notice a few close friends getting together… Jesus sits down and calls the twelve around him and says to them, ” If anyone wants to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all.”
Wow! The heart of the matter.
Therefore humble yourselves [demote, lower yourselves in your own estimation] under the mighty hand of God, that in due time He may exalt you (I Peter 5:6; Amplified Bible).
